Enrique 鈥淩ick鈥 Dovalina
I am saddened that one of our true warriors and champions for civil rights has passed. All who knew Enrique 鈥淩ick鈥 Dovalina (photo) knows that he fought so many battles to make sure future generations have a seat at the table and are treated with dignity and respect for their contributions. As the former President of LULAC, he advocated and fought tirelessly for the rights of so many. He led with distinction and fought with resolve. SER Jobs for Progress National, Inc. benefited from his expertise and commitment through his participation as a board member. All of us are better today because of him! My deepest condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.

隆Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
Happy Cinco de Mayo! On this day in 1862, the Mexican army was victorious over France at the Battle of Puebla. Did you know 鈥 Cinco de Mayo is also known as Battle of Puebla Day?
Mexicans had won that particular battle at Puebla, which slowed down French power and support of the Confederates north of the border. So the celebration was that Mexico had helped secure the fate of the Union. It was a form of patriotism where victory over the French was a blow to the confederacy and slavery. Also, we have to keep in mind that Mexico had already outlawed slavery much much earlier, which was the basis for the confederacy’s economy.
In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo may not be a big celebration, but in the United States, the holiday has turned into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage. At 抖阴传媒, we are grateful for and celebrate Mexico’s influence on America’s cultural landscape today. We are dedicated to enabling the Hispanic community and other underserved populations to fully participate in the socio-economic mainstream, achieving equal access and parity in all aspects of American society. 隆Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
A Spring Message
An old proverb states, 鈥淣o matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.鈥 Spring has officially begun, it is Easter weekend, and we are celebrating new beginnings and a revived sense of hope. As we charge forward in 2021, we at 抖阴传媒 are sharing hope with those we serve across the nation. With more vaccinations and re-opened businesses, we can see that the sun will rise again. 抖阴传媒 continued vital programs throughout the past year, transforming lives even in the most trying times. Our vision remains one of hope 鈥 to enable the Hispanic community and other underserved populations to fully participate in the socio-economic mainstream, achieving equal success and parity in all aspects of American society. Please join us at 抖阴传媒 as we work together and support one another with new hope.
Standing Against Asian American Hate
抖阴传媒 stands beside Asian Americans and condemns the horrifying racism and violence terrorizing the Asian community in this country.
Only overpowering cries of unity, respect and community can silence the deafening sounds of ignorance and hatred that continue to divide us and threaten so many. As a nation, we must do better because I still believe we can.
At 抖阴传媒, we strive for equality, fight on behalf of minority populations in this country, and stand up to injustice. Serving and meeting the needs of the underserved is part of our SER mission and that extends to speaking out against those that seek to tear down a community.
To our Asian American friends and neighbors, we cannot fathom the fear and pain this latest explosion of racism has caused you. We see you. We are listening. And we remain vigilant in eradicating hate with unifying voices, hope and community.
Happy Women鈥檚 History Month!
Happy Women鈥檚 History Month! Congress declared March as Women鈥檚 History Month for the first time in 1987. While we should always honor and respect women鈥檚 role in every aspect of our history, this month, we vow to amplify those voices and highlight those contributions even more.
Think about it 鈥 without women, we wouldn鈥檛 have the hand sanitizer聽gel (Lupe Hernandez), laser cataract surgery (Dr. Patricia Era Bath), fire escapes (Anna Connelly), medical syringes (Letitia Geer), and so many other things that make our lives healthier, safer and just better all around.
Throughout history, society hasn鈥檛 allowed women to sit at the table with their male counterparts. They had to work so much harder to be heard and respected, persevering and developing grit and determination along the way.
While we continue to strive for more progress, women鈥檚 history is still being made each day. Kamala Harris has shattered the glass ceiling as our first female vice president.
To these brave women, to our mothers and daughters, our aunts and grandmothers, we celebrate you and honor you. At 抖阴传媒, we hope to support and elevate your work both this month and in the future. Thank you for your grace, passion, and courage. We salute you.
